Andrew Pleased With Man Of The Match Performance

30 September 2015

Calvin Andrew, Tuesday night’s Man of the Match, admits he's pleased to have received the accolade.

The forward was chosen as the recipient of the award by Tuesday's match sponsors after an excellent performance in the 3-2 win over Shrewsbury Town.

"It’s nice to be appreciated. A lot of the time, the work you do up front goes unappreciated if you don’t get on the score-sheet, but [I put in] a lot of hard-work and I’ll probably sleep well tonight,” laughed Calvin.

“It was one of my most hard-working performances [during my time at the club]. It was the type of game where we had to dig deep to grind out a result.

“I got the plaudits for working hard but the other guys got on the score-sheet and we worked hard collectively as a team to get the result.”

Andrew led the line exceptionally well and worked tirelessly throughout the game against the Shrews and he says that’s down to taking on-board what Manager Keith Hill wants.

“It’s the understanding of the team and understanding your role. The Gaffer has instructed me that as a lone centre-forward it’s not always about scoring goals, it’s about supporting the team, maintaining the ball and being a target for your team to send the ball to.

“We’ve got such a great side and we’ve got good staff. The Gaffer has brought something out of me and he is helping and spurring me on to still achieve things in the game. I’m really pleased and happy here, and I’m just glad that we got the three points tonight.”
