The Gaffer's Thoughts On Saturday's Action

19 July 2015

Manager Keith Hill has been reflecting on the weekend’s pre-season friendly against Macclesfield Town, as well as the Lancashire Senior Cup win over Manchester United Reserves...

“It’s encouraging that we’ve kept two clean sheets on the day – one at Macclesfield and one against Manchester United at Altrincham. It’s another game and we’re looking forward to the final,” said Hill.

“We picked up no injuries, which is really important. Our plan today, after an extremely hard week, was to get the players a 90 minute game under their belts and we’ve done that. Physically, it was encouraging. Obviously we’re looking to August the 8th where we’re looking for that match sharpness and tapering training down.

“We’re treating every day that we’ve got, whether it’s a match or training session, as a training session. It was just an extended 90 minute training session today.

“The lads have been working exceptionally hard. They looked a bit leggier today but we got through the 90 minutes with a clean sheet so we’re relatively pleased with that."
