Hill Pleased To Reach The Second Round Of The Capital One Cup

13 August 2015

Manager Keith Hill spoke to Dale Player following his side’s penalty shoot-out win over Coventry City…

“I think Coventry are an excellent side but I know what Tony [Mowbray] is like and the way he sets his side up. They’re very, very pleasing on the eye – they rotate players, they’ve got pace and I can see what he’s trying to build. I think they’ll just get better and better.

“I think we were superb for 20-25 minutes, then they changed their shape slightly and probably dealt with us a lot better from that point. We got a tremendous goal but they were bossing possession and it was difficult to stop them.

“The second half belonged to Coventry on the whole, but I think we took over in extra time and possibly should have won it.

“It was a highly entertaining game from a neutral perspective, but I think we showed a hell of a defensive discipline. We made good decisions and stayed in good pockets, especially in the second half when Coventry were dominating possession.

“It was a big, big ask for the players to play with the same energy. I didn’t change too much [from Saturday] – Joe Rafferty had to come in because Andy Cannon was a little bit injured, although he should be back for the weekend.

“I’m really pleased that we’re through to the next round.”
