Vincenti: Positives To Take

20 October 2014

Peter Vincenti admits that he’s disappointed with Saturday’s result, but reckons it shows how far the side has come.

Rochdale were forced to settle for a point against Gillingham, despite a dominant and one sided performance against the Gills. Dale had opportunities to put the game out of sight and, while the side were left to rue the missed chances, Vincenti believes there are positives to take.

Speaking after the game, the Jerseyman said: “You’re asking the right person about the lack of goals. I’m disappointed with myself for not finishing off our chances and I take some of the responsibility.

“It’s disappointing when we've played well and created the chances, but on a positive note at least we’re getting in the positions to miss and I’m sure that they’ll eventually come good.”

He continued: “We’re still new to this division and when you’re going along nicely it often gets forgotten how well you’re doing, so I think it’s a marker of how well we’ve done and it’s credit to the boys that they’re disappointed with today’s performance.

"We’re on the up and the lads are looking to progress. The management and the whole club are as well, so it’s a positive that we’re coming away disappointed that we’re not getting a win against a good League One team that have been in the division for a good while now.”

Vincenti’s goal was his sixth goal of the season and he was pleased to get on the score sheet: “I probably should have scored a few more from that area last year after getting in at the back post. We’ve worked on it and credit to Beno [Rhys Bennett] with the cross because it was perfect. I was pleased with the goal.”
