U18s: Fleetwood 0-4 Rochdale

6 October 2014

Dale’s under 18 side recorded their sixth league win of the season on Saturday with a 4-0 win over Fleetwood Town in Lytham.

James Hooper, Callum Schorah, Dom Reid and Nyal Bell were on the score sheet in the victory.

On a windy Fleetwood morning Rochdale were trying to get back to winning ways against a competitive Fleetwood Town team following the defeat to Walsall a fortnight ago.

The first half began with Dale trying to control and dominate possession. This led to some good passages of play from the visiting team and they went in front with an excellent team goal on five minutes.

The play started from the back with Omar Sinclair, who played through midfield and into the Fleetwood third in a move consisting of eight passes. James Hooper got on the final ball and curled a left-footed shot over the Cod Army goalkeeper and into the far corner.

Dale went on to net their second of the afternoon eleven minutes later.

In a neat passing move, Nyal Bell was played in behind the defence from a Schorah through ball. Bell, who made his first team debut last month, returned the pass to Schorah, who fired into the corner.

The lead was further extended on 21 minutes when Dominic Reid placed his shot beyond the oncoming ‘keeper, who had come off his line, to extend the score to 3-0.

The second half began with both sides competing for momentum and possession, and the game became more competitive. The goal mouth was threatened more often by the home side, but the Dale team remained resolute and protected Rhys Lovett’s goal with blocks and tackles, before going on to increase their lead on the hour mark.

The play came down the left hand flank with Billy Hasler-Cregg finding Callum Schorah, who in turn played in Bell. Bell struck home inside the six yard box.

After the goal Dale built more momentum and took control of the game, creating more chances during the final period of the match, however they were unable to add to their tally.
