Kids Cup 2014

18 March 2014

Hopwood Primary School have recently represented Rochdale at the regional finals of the Football League’s Kids Cup.

The youngsters earned the opportunity to play at Chesterfield after emerging victorious from the preliminary rounds at the Soccer Factory, during which teams from more 30 schools in the Borough competed against each other to represent Dale in the competition.

Up for grabs at Chesterfield was the chance to progress to the final of the competition, which is played at Wembley before kick-off at the League Two play-off final in May.

Hopwood Primary School played extremely well in all matches, but a lack fire power resulted in three defeats in the first set of games, followed by resounding victories in the last two fixtures, which left them fourth in the table.

Carl Beamish, the school’s PE co-ordinator commented: “I wish we could have started the competition after the third game as we put the chances away in the last two games to match the performances of the lads. We had a fantastic day out at Chesterfield and it was a great experience for them.”
