Rochdale’s under 18 side bowed out of the Lancashire Youth Cup at the semi-final stage on Saturday following a penalty shoot-out defeat to Oldham Athletic.
The tie had finished 3-3 after normal time, and the Latics went onto progress to the final of the competition with a 4-2 win on penalties.
The hosts took an early lead through Jordan Bove and doubled their advantage on 25 minutes, but Dale responded before the interval to level the scoring.
Billy Hasler-Cregg halved the deficit shortly after the half hour, before Andy Cannon pulled Rochdale level on the stroke of half time.
Connor Martin's 73rd minute free-kick turned the game on its head, but they were dealt blow when the Latics netted through a late spot kick to send the game to penalties.
