Manager Keith Hill says that the illness, which has recently seen Jack O’Connell and Josh Lillis unable to feature in Dale’s matchday squad, is continuing to affect the team.
With Dale not in FA Cup action until Sunday, Hill gave the players extended time off this week to try and stop the illness spreading, but he says that hasn’t put a stop to it.
“One of the reasons I gave the players the time off was because they needed a rest. We need a rest from each other because we put the players under an enormous amount of stress with respect to expectation, but equally so, we’ve got a virus or an illness that’s going through the squad of players.
“We needed to try and get rid of that but unfortunately, even although we’ve given the players some time off, we’ve returned to training on Wednesday and we’ve got another two or three players who can’t come in because they’re ill.
“It’s something that we need to get rid of because it’s causing me a bit of concern at the minute.”
