Hill: We Made It Difficult For Ourselves

27 December 2014

Manager Keith Hill spoke to Dale Player following the Boxing Day defeat to Scunthorpe United at Glanford Park…

“We’ve been beaten but we scored a goal which I thought was a worthy equaliser. We basicially shot ourselves in the foot on both goals against a very good side here today.

“They’re a very good side when you look at the experience that they’ve got on the pitch, so it was a very difficult task anyway, but we made it more difficult for ourselves in the manner in which we conceded both goals.

“It’s one of those games that just gets away from you and that’s what happened. I couldn’t argue and I won’t argue too much with the result. Sometimes you win and obviously today we’ve lost – we weren’t quite at it. I’m really quite disappointed with the manner of the two goals.

He continued: “The players have got to show a little bit more man brain instead of being kids. I’m expecting them to close the game out at 1-1 - I’m all for that point today away from home. We’re not going to score four goals every time we play away from home.

“The opposition have put up a strong defence today and they’ve beaten us, but they shouldn’t be beating us in that manner.

“It wasn’t comfortable for them – we had our chances, there’s no question about that. We had chances in the first half, we had chances before a goal was scored and thought we were going to score. But we can’t keep conceding two goals like we’ve done last week and this week and expect to win games - we can’t put too much pressure on our strikers.

“It just wasn’t quite there for some reason and that’s disappointing because there was a real chance there for us today.”
