On the back of what has been a wonderful British summer, Rochdale Football Club's Football in the Community Trust, with partners Rochdale Boroughwide Housing (RBH), have hosted multi-sports sessions for almost 100 children.
And, on the last day, Dale’s own stars, Captain Peter Cavanagh and defender Joe Rafferty, took time out of their busy training schedules to meet the youngsters!
RBH’s Communities First team has been working together with Rochdale AFC’s Football in the Community to kick off the summer holidays in style, giving the opportunity of professional football coaching to children from RBH’s neighbourhoods.
Children aged 8-12 years have been learning a new set of skills thanks to the Trust - sessions have been taking place in the school holidays and have included volleyball, basketball, athletics and of course football.
Communities First Co-ordinator, at RBH, Ruth Sillence, commented: “The whole week was a huge success. I have to say my favourite part was hearing the buzz of anticipation on the coach during the journey to the football ground on the first day. It has been an absolute joy to see how the children responded to the coaching and how they each grew in confidence. Meeting some the Rochdale AFC players was a high point of the week!”
