We’re delighted to announce that several former Rochdale players, including Craig Dawson, have added their support to our Brandon’s Beard fundraising appeal.
Fans favourites Craig Dawson, Gary Jones and Jason Kennedy have all been in touch to say they’ll be growing a beard this November after hearing about the appeal. Former staff member Jon Lucas is also getting involved.
They join the current Dale squad, management and staff in growing a beard to help raise money for a special bed which will help ease the pain and discomfort suffered by Brandon Beech, the son of Assistant Manager Chris Beech.
Craig Dawson said, "I saw the story on the official website last week and decided I wanted to help out. I will be growing a beard though I don't know how it will turn out, I just hope we can raise the money to get Brandon his bed.
"West Brom have said they will publicise the campaign too so I'd like to thank them for getting behind it too. I've got a sponsor form from Beechy so if anyone wants to sponsor me please drop into the Club Shop and add yourself to the list."
Former Dale midfielder and Spotland legend Gary Jones said, "Both myself and Jason Kennedy are joining in and we hope Brandon can get this bed as soon as possible. When you have children of your own stories like this really get you especially when it is someone you know. Me and JK will be flying the ginger beard flag so we should get the most sponsors!"
Ten year old Brandon has Cystic Fibrosis, one of the UK’s most life threatening inherited diseases.
The Beech family are always looking for ways to improve Brandon’s life, and they have recently been told about a vibrating bed, which if used, would help improve the function of Brandon's lungs. It works by loosening the mucus on his lungs while he sleeps. There’s a substantial cost involved in buying the bed as they are made to order, and that’s where Brandon’s Beard comes in!
