Injury Update

Rhys Bennett, Terry Gornell and Andrew Tutte injury update

Manager Keith Hill has today given an injury update on Andrew Tutte and Terry Gornell.

Speaking to Dale Player ahead of this weekend’s League Two encounter against Southend United, Hill said: “It looks like Andrew has damaged the cartilage [in his knee] and he will see a surgeon today [Friday] to see whether or not he needs surgery. If he does it will be an injury that will keep him out for the remainder of the season but he might be able to prolong the surgery and have it at the end of the season. We will know more once he has seen the surgeon.”

Terry Gornell has missed Dale’s last two outings after picking up a groin strain in the win over Wycombe Wanderers at Spotland earlier this month and Hill expects him to miss at least the next two matches. “He’s progressing well but he’s missed two weeks of training. He’s in a position now where he can start stepping up his rehabilitation so he’s going to be out for at least another two games.”

Meanwhile, defender Rhys Bennett has been ruled out for the rest of the season after damaging his knee during last weekend’s League Two encounter against Bristol Rovers at the Memorial Stadium.

A scan has revealed damage to his posterior cruciate and medial ligament damage. Rhys will see the surgeon on Saturday to determine to next step of his recovery.

Hill added: “That’s two key players that have been instrumental since I’ve been back at the club that are now missing for probably the remainder of the season but I’ve got no fear of introducing the young players as long as everyone embraces it.”
