A word from Head Groundsman James Blackburn
Dale’s groundstaff have continued to put in the hours over the last few days as they prepare for the second home match of the week with the visit of AFC Wimbledon to Spotland on Saturday.
Despite the recent rainfall, the pitch is currently fine ahead of the weekend’s encounter, with the weather forecast favourable overnight.
Head Groundsman James Blackburn spoke to rochdaleafc.co.uk on Friday afternoon: “This is always a bad time of year after coming out of a heavy fixture list during the Christmas period. We’ve got nationwide floods at the moment so the rain is always going to have an impact on the work we can and cannot do, but we prepare the best we can. At this time of year it is cold and wet, the grass doesn’t grow and it takes longer to recover, but despite this the pitch is decent condition for the amount of use it is had on it so far, so that is pleasing.”
Any updates will be communicated via the official website, Twitter and Facebook on Saturday morning.
