Hill Reflects On Spireites Draw

4 February 2013

Ten man Rochdale had to settle for a point against Chesterfield on Saturday in what was an evenly matched encounter at Spotland.

Chesterfield opened the scoring on 55 minutes through Jay O’Shea, however Dale level proceedings eleven minutes later with a fine curling effort from Bobby Grant.

Manager Keith Hill spoke to Dale Player following the 1-1 draw.

“I’ve learnt a lot about the players in training but you only learn more about your players in real action and that was today (Saturday).

“It was a great test when we went one-nil down, I wanted a response and we got one from the players. The opposition are a good side and that was evident. I’m happy with a point, we could have nicked it at the end but I think they could have as well, so on reflection I’m pleased that we’ve got a little bit of momentum.

“The opposition probably surprised us by the way they started, but it was a pleasant surprise because our players withstood that challenge and we created one or two opportunities in the first half. We will still score goals but it is important that we have the mental strength to stop the opposition and we did that to a certain degree today because Marc Richards (the Spireites frontman) is a thorn in our side and we’ve nullified that threat. We’re building a squad for the remainder of this season but also trying to put down the foundations for next season as well.”
