Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow

6 December 2013

After having a look back at the photographs taken to create our #BrandonsBeard gallery, it is fair to say that there are some fantastic images which capture the support shown by #TeamRochdale for the cause.

While some players, such as Peter Cavanagh, Matty Done and Brian Barry-Murphy, are blessed with being able to grow facial hair, it has been evident that some are less fortunate.

Rhys Bennett realised during the month that he fell into the latter category and you may remember seeing photos of him on the club’s social media feeds proudly sporting the letters ‘BB’, which he had shaved into his hair to show his support for the #BrandonsBeard appeal.

“I specifically went into the barbers and he was like what pattern are we doing this week, which is when I said actually can you do 'BB' because I’m supporting Brandon Beech,” said Rhys.

“It’s something which is very close to the football club and I was just trying to do my bit to help. I can’t grow a beard so it was the next best thing."

It’s not the first time the 22-year-old has tried something different with his hair, and we’ve had a look back at Rhys’ ever changing hairstyles over the last couple of seasons, including his time at Scottish Championship club Falkirk, where he spent a season on loan from Bolton Wanderers before joining Rochdale.

“It’s just a way of expressing myself. I’m not scared to do whatever I want with my hair and it’s just one of them things that makes me, me."

“I get my hair done every two weeks, but I’ve reached the stage where I’m wondering what to do next. It’s cold now and Jack (the Kitman) isn't  giving me any hats so I’m going to need something. Suggestions are welcome!”
