Bedfordshire FA Crowned Champions

22 April 2013

An entertaining match at Spotland saw Bedfordshire FA crowned Champions

While Dale’s first team made the trip to Oxford United on Saturday, Spotland played host to an entertaining FA County Youth Cup Final.

It took a penalty shoot out to decide the winners after an eight goal thriller sent the match to spot kicks.

Bedfordshire FA and Manchester FA went into the interval yet to break the deadlock, but following three second half goals from Manchester, it looked as though they’d be lifting the trophy.

However, Bedfordshire staged a dramatic late come back and took the match to extra time.

With 112 minutes on the clock, Bedfordshire took a 4-3 lead, but that was cancelled out as Manchester levelled from the spot just two minutes later.

Tied at 4-4, the match went to penalties and Bedfordshire were emerged as 4-2 winners to lift the cup.

Dale Chief Executive Colin Garlick said: “It was an extremely entertaining game and I’m immensely proud that we were chosen to host this prestigious match. I’m also very proud of the club for what we have done because a lot of hard-work has gone on behind the scenes in order to stage the event.”
