Coleman: We've got to put it right

10 September 2012

Manager John Coleman reflects on Saturday's 1-0 defeat at home to Burton Albion.

"We can’t have any complaints with the result, they were better than us on the day," said Coleman. "They knew how we play, they’ve done a job on us and fair play to them; but we’ve got to be better than that, the fans deserve better than that for paying their hard earned money.

"The lack of quality was evident and physically I don’t think we competed with them well enough; at times we were a soft touch, and it pains me to see any of my teams get beat like that.

"I can’t remember us working their ‘keeper too much and our ‘keeper has made three or four great saves at home to a team who haven’t won away from home, who haven’t scored away from home and who haven’t kept a clean sheet all season. We can take nothing away from Burton, they played well today and deserved the win.

He continued: “Five points from five games is a horrible start and if you carry on that form and it goes to 15 games then you’re out of the equation. We’ve got to put it right quick; we owe it to ourselves and more importantly we owe it to the fans. They’ve have a torrid 12 months and they don’t deserve what they are putting up with. They’re getting taken from one extreme to another – we’ve played some great football this season and some abject stuff as well, most notably at Torquay and again today.

“I’ve cancelled any days off this week so we’ll spend more time on the training ground to try and get right the way we way play.”
