Assistant Manager Jimmy Bell is looking forward to the FA Cup First Round Proper

Rochdale get their FA Cup campaign off to start this Saturday with a trip to fellow League Two side Morecambe.

The two sides meet in the First Round Proper, just three weeks after Morecambe emerged as 2-1 winners over Dale at Spotland in the league.

Assistant Manager Jimmy Bell is looking forward to this Saturday’s cup clash and reflects on the last encounter.

“They’re great days, great occasions,” said Bell. “Your aim as a League Two club is to get to that third round and a get a plump draw – your Manchester Uniteds, Liverpools, Chelseas and Arsenals – that’s our aim and there’s no reason why we can’t do that.”

He continued: “We’ve got a big obstacle in Morecambe. We saw them a couple of weeks ago and they are a very good team but they are beatable and we let ourselves down that day. Our aim now is to get over that first hurdle and get a good draw in the second round.

“We let ourselves down in the first half but we addressed the problems and we were a lot better in the second half and in the end I think we were unlucky not to get something out of the game. We have learnt our lessons, we know what they are about and our young lads needed that challenge. It was a different type of challenge to the big physical presence of what they’ve come across this season, they were a more mobile team and we’ll learn from that.”
