Ashley Grimes has been reflecting on Friday night’s win over Cheltenham Town and looks ahead to the Boxing Day encounter at Burton Albion.
Grimes has started Dale’s last two outings, netting four, and he says Wednesday’s match at the Pirelli Stadium can’t come quick enough.
“It is nice to get two games under my belt. Any footballer will tell you that you don’t want to be sat around, I just want to be play football and I've enjoyed the last two games. We didn’t get the result we needed away at Aldershot but we got the result on Friday and it was a big win.
“[The recent run of defeats] has been difficult because it’s in the back of your mind, but we needed to put it behind us because it was important that we pushed back up the table. I thought the defence was outstanding and I think first and foremost they deserve the most credit. They’ve taken a bit of stick but it wasn’t just the back four, as an eleven we haven’t defended correctly. But we did [on Friday] and we thoroughly deserved the win.”
He continued: “Games can’t come quick enough for me to be honest. I haven’t had a Christmas in seven years so it is nothing new, I’m looking forward to the next game. Hopefully we can get back in the play-offs and keep pushing up.”
