Dale under 18s were back in action on Saturday morning as they got their league campaign underway with a home fixture against Shrewsbury Town.
Jamie Allan bagged Dale’s only goal of the game with an exquisite half volley from 20 yards in a 2-1 defeat.
Manager Chris Beech said: “It was a disappointing start to the season and we certainly added to our own downfall today. We’ll now look forward to our next fixture, and I’m personally looking for a response from the group.”
He added: “Jamie Allan for me was the outstanding player today and he deserves individual praise for that.”
