Rochdale Football Club has today accepted an undisclosed fee for long serving midfielder Joe Thompson from League One side Tranmere Rovers.
Thompson, who was a product of Dale’s youth system, leaves the club after six years of first team service.
The 23-year-old who made his first team debut
in the final home game of the 2005/06 season, made over 150 appearances for Rochdale during his time at the club.
Manager John Coleman said: “Joe indicated to me that he wanted a move away from Spotland and I respect his wishes.
“We had offered him a new two-year deal and he was very much in my plans for the forthcoming season, but Joe has got to think about what he wants to do for himself and his family, and it was very much a footballing decision.
"I'd like to wish Joe all the best, and thank him for the service he has given the club."
The club would also like to thank Joe for his contributions to the Dale cause over his tenure at Spotland and wish him every success in the future.
