First day in the job for new head groundsman
We are today delighted to announce the appointment of a new Head Groundsman to Spotland Stadium.
James Blackburn, who started his first shift this morning, takes over the reigns from Drew Duffy who has been acting as Head Groundsman, along side Tony Chew, since the departure of Phil Collinson in May.
Drew will return to the role of Assistant Groundsman, and will work with James on a daily basis.
“I’m really looking forward to my time at Rochdale,” said James who has spent the last four years as Assistant Groundsman at Burnley. “I had been at Burnley for four years and thoroughly enjoyed my time there, but it was time for a change. When I came to Spotland I found the place attractive, it is a club that is going places, and I want to be a part of that.”
He continued: “Drew has done a great job under pressure. He’s only 17, he’s had a heavy fixture list, it has been a tough summer this year weather wise, so I think he’s coped admirably especially at his young age – he’s done a superb job.
“I have high standards too so I won’t be letting the condition of the pitch slip.”
The club would like to thank Drew and Tony for their hard work and efforts during the summer months in ensuring the pitch was in a top condition ahead of the new season.
