Preview | Wrexham (H) - Emirates FA Cup First Round Replay

19 November 2019

Rochdale v Wrexham | Crown Oil Arena, Emirates FA Cup First Round Replay, Tuesday 19th November 2019, 7:45pm Kick-Off

Dale welcome National League side Wrexham to the Crown Oil Arena on Tuesday evening, in an Emirates FA Cup first round replay.

The sides drew 0-0 at The Racecourse Ground just over a week ago, with Boston United awaiting the winner in the second round.

PRE-MATCH INTERVIEW

Barry-Murphy said: “It will be a great game and I can’t wait. Last Sunday’s game was a proper cup tie and one that we were obviously aware was going to be extremely difficult.

We’re very excited to play on our home ground and the carrot of getting through to the second round is huge for us all. We’ll aim to try and do that, but we’re under no illusions of how difficult a task it is going to be.”

Report | Dale 1-0 Wrexham - Emirates FA Cup First Round Replay

19 November 2019

Dale are through to the second round of the Emirates FA Cup after beating Wrexham by a goal to nil at the Crown Oil Arena on Tuesday night.

Brian Barry-Murphy’s side will now face a home tie against National League North side Boston United on Sunday the 1st December.

The first real chance for either team fell to Dale, when following Rekeil Pyke’s flick on from Aaron Morley’s corner, Paul McShane headed home to score his first goal for the Club.

Wrexham went in search of an equaliser and had their first glimpse of a chance when Bobby Grant helped on a cross from the right-hand side, but Ben Tollitt was unable to get on the end of it.

Matty Done nearly scored against his former club when he sent a powerful strike towards goal from 25-yards out, but it was well saved by Rob Lainton in the Wrexham goal.

James Jennings went close for the visitors when his cross-shot whistled past the post, before Bobby Grant then headed a cross at goal, but he couldn’t generate enough power and it wasn’t troubling Dale stopper Robert Sánchez.

Sánchez was called into action once again, this time tipping Luke Summerfield’s drive over the bar.

Mark Carrington was the next to try his luck for the away side, but his left-footed strike went harmlessly over.

In the second-half, the visitors went close from a corner, James Jennings’ flicked header going just over.

Wrexham captain Shaun Pearson found himself with a chance to equalise but he couldn’t convert from ten yards, shortly before Luke Young then fired over for the visitors.

Bobby Grant had a glorious chance to send the game into extra-time when the ball fell to him, but he couldn’t hit the target from close range.

Dale held out for an all-important victory which sees them progress into the second round of the Emirates FA Cup.

Dale are next in action on Saturday, a home fixture against Portsmouth, with ticket details available HERE.
