Dale were beaten 3-0 by Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park on Tuesday night.

Bryn Morris fired the hosts ahead after ten minutes with a well-struck free-kick, before two goals in five second-half minutes from Adebayo Akinfenwa and Fred Onyedinma sealed all three points for the Chairboys.

MJ Williams replaced Ollie Rathbone in the only change from Saturday’s win at Bradford City.

Dale created a superb chance in the opening two minutes of the game when Callum Camps’ ball inside Wycobe full-back Joe Jacobson found Joe Rafferty. He pulled the ball back for Jordan Williams who couldn’t make contact with a flick from the edge of the six-yard box.

Ryan Delaney then headed wide Rafferty’s cross after a corner was played short, but it was the hosts who took the lead in the tenth minute.

Morris took aim for the top corner from around 35-yards and the movement of the ball appeared to deceive Dale stopper Brendan Moore, nestling in the back of the net.

Adebayo Akinfenwa headed a corner into the ground and Ian Henderson curled a first-time effort over from 20-yards as both sides created half-chances.

Camps tested Wycombe goalkeeper Ryan Allsop from 25-yards, whilst Moore held on to efforts from Jacobson and Alex Samuel.

Dale made their first substitution four minutes before the interval when Andy Cannon replaced Kgosi Ntlhe, who had picked up a yellow card earlier.

Jordan Williams sent a low shot from distance just wide for Dale before Samuel sent a half volley into the side netting.

On the stroke of half-time great interplay released Done into the area but his pull back was blocked and cleared away as he bore down on goal.

Dale began the second-half strongly, with Henderson sending an effort inches wide from 25-yards after a neat nutmeg on Morris, shortly before Aaron Wilbraham replaced MJ Williams.

The other Williams in the Dale side, Jordan, sent a dipping volley just over the crossbar after Dooley’s cross had been partially cleared.

Jason McCarthy headed a right-wing cross wide for the hosts before they doubled their lead.

A deep free-kick was sent towards Akinfenwa who controlled with his chest, turned, and sent a half-volley into the corner of Moore’s net.

Bradden Inman replaced Jordan Williams with Dale’s final change but just four minutes later the hosts added a third, when Samuel’s hooked ball into the area was headed home by the rising Onyedinma.

The goalscorer then saw an effort beaten away well by Moore, before efforts from Camps, Cannon and Henderson all went off target as Dale looked for a way back into the game.

With the final effort of the game Dale struck the post, when a wide free-kick was played to Camps on the edge of the area who struck a low effort off the foot of the upright.
