Matty joined Dale in July 2013 after being released by Premier League outfit Stoke City. He went on to enjoy an excellent season, scoring nine goals from midfield to help Dale to promotion.
The 25-year-old midfielder failed to break into the first team at the Britannia Stadium, but made his senior bow in a loan spell with Hereford in November 2010.
Further loans took the former Northern Ireland U21 international to Oldham and Bristol Rovers (twice) and he ended 2011/12 on loan at Southend.
In November 2014 Matty was called-up to the full Northern Ireland squad for their Euro 2016 qualifier in Romania, although he didn’t get off the bench in his country’s 2-0 defeat. Less than 24 hours later, Matty did come on as a substitute in Dale’s 1-0 loss at Port Vale.
On the eve of last term, Matty extended his contract with Dale until the summer of 2017.
