Having joined the club initially on non-contract terms Sam made his first start for the club in the Johnstones Paint 2nd round tie against Bury in October 2007.
Following an injury to regular custodian James Spencer, Sam was next called upon in the FA cup defeat at Southend and having performed very well and saved a penalty in that game he kept the shirt and played a big part in an unbeaten run that saw his side on the verges of the Play off places as the Christmas fixtures approached.
