O'Grady celebratesChris O'Grady put the away team ahead on the stroke of half-time at the St Mary's Stadium, before Gary Jones completed the scoring in the second half. Having played 36 consecutive seasons in the Football League's bottom division from 1974 to 2010, Rochdale have made a strong start to the new campaign and currently sit in 9th position in npower League One.

After the match, Hill was delighted with the result and the style of his side's performance;

"I'm delighted. But more than that I think today was a real mental test. We had to be a team today and we showed that in abundance.

"We want to play with a certain style but it's hard to come here in this stadium and for the players to perform like they have done.

Post Match at St. Marys"For the supporters to witness what they have done today will be a lifelong memory, I'm really pleased to be part of it and I think we deserved the victory.

"Nobody really expected us to pick up any points but today we have done when all the pressure was on Southampton."
