Rochdale continued their pre-season preparations at Fleetwood Town on Tuesday evening with another with win and another comfortable win at that.
Three goals from Chris O'Grady, Jean Louis Akpra Akpro and Joe Thompson sealed victory for Hill's side but it was the performance of his side that would have pleased him most.
Dale began the game in positive fashion and took the game to their hosts in the early stages.Jean Louis Akpa Akpro looked lively in attack and even out wide on the right he proved effective swiging a deep cross over for Chris O'Grady to head goalward.
With six minutes played Dale's dominance told and excellent work down the left flank thanks to a combination of Joe Widdowson and O'Grady Dale opened the scoring.O'Grady spun his marker before rolling the ball to the over-lapping Widdowson. The former Grimsby man took the ball to the byline before crossing for O'Grady who scored at the second attempt after 'keeper Danny Hurst saved.
Fleetwood chance with a curling effort from Darren Racchi wide of Josh Lillis's goal was as good as it got for the home side in the first half.
On 15 minutes good play down the right wing brought a smart save from Hurst in the Fleetwood goal. This time Joe Thompson and Scott Wiseman combined to create the opportunity with the latter getting the shot away only to see it saved.
Three minutes later Chris O'Grady again brought Hurst into the fray after skipping down the left before an incisive run into the box.The Dale striker struck the ball low but Hurst was equal to it and pushed the ball round the post.
Akpa Akpro cut inside from the left to create the opening for a shot that had Hurst scrambling to his right and while that effort went wide, there was nothing wrong with his next effort moments later.A central shot from 20 yards looped over Hurst and into the back of the net.
Akpa Akpro almost made it three as Dale continued to pile pressure on Fleetwood this time a Brian Barry-Murphy corner from the right found the strikers head but sadly Akpro could only find the post.
The second half resulted in a more equal contest for large periods though new 'keeper Josh Lillis had very little to do as the Dale defence stood firm.
If a goal was coming it had to be the visitors who were going to get it and 16 minutes into the half Rochdale did make it three through Joe Thompson.O'Grady down the left clipped the ball into Thompson's path and he simply rolled the ball past the onrushing 'keeper into the net.
Rochdale could have made it four after battling work in midfield from skipper Gary Jones to not only win the ball but drive forward and find O'Grady on his left. O'Grady took a touch before looking for the far corner but his effort skipped wide of the target.
With 75 minutes played Ian Craney gave the Highbury faithful something to at least leave their seat about although nothing to celebrate. The former Accrington player brought the ball out of the sky before volleying just wide to a rare round of applause from the Fleetwood.
It was a pleasing performance from Rochdale who continued to press and play at a very high tempo.A step up in class from last Saturday and Dale will need to do as well again this Saturday when Premiership outfit Bolton come to town.
