Dawson In Phantom Mask

Posted on: Thu 11 Mar 2010

Rochdales young central defender, Craig Dawson is to wear a Phantom of the Opera style mask.

Craig suffered an injury to his face in the 1-1 draw with LincolnCity last Saturday, which resulted in him having to leave the field for treatment, fortunately Craig was able to return to the game but suffered some discomfort later.

Club physio, Andy Thorpe immediately set about looking for some protection for Craig in order that the young defender could continue playing in what has been an outstanding debut season for Craig.

Andy said " I know Craig is keen to play every game and I know the Gaffer and Flicker along with all Dale fans will also want to see Craig playing and it is my job to help make that happen".

Andy has identified a specialist in London who will make the protective mask, Craig will travel to the specialist in London where he will have his face photographed and impressions taken and from there the mask will be made specifically for comfort and protection to fit Craig's face.

This type of mask will not be unfamiliar to Dale fans as you may recall Alan Goodall wore a similar mask during his time with us.

Craig said "I'm sure the lads will give me some stick about the mask but I can live with that just so long as it allows me to play".
