Popular right winger Ben Muirhead left the club, by mutual consent last week and manager Keith Hill gives us his frank assessment of the reasons behind the parting of the ways and the possibilty of replacing him in the squad.

" There is room to replace Ben but probably not before Saturday. It just didn't work out with Ben unfortunately. There are a lot of reasons and unltimately I don't think that he ever really fulfilled his potential at this football club which is really disappointing."

" I can guarantee that whatever length of contract I gave to Gary Jones he would give blood and sweat for the duration of that contract. The same cannot be said about Ben and to be honest when you are trying to invite people in to an environment you spend a lot of energy trying to focus on one player when you have another 22 players that you also need to focus on. It becomes worthless energy especially when they are not willing to do what you want them to do. It was paramount to me that there had to be a parting of the ways and there was."

"There is no animosity towards Ben and he will be forever in Rochdale's history with respect to scoring the penalty that took us to Wembley and I wish him well for the future"
