Rochdale 1 Stockport County 2

A slightly embarrassed Stockport boss Jim Gannon was honest enough in his after match summing up to admit that he felt sorry for Dale after they dominated virtually the whole of the 90 minutes of play and somehow, with more than a little help from the officials ,ended up on the wrong end of 2-1 scoreline.
The game was played at 100  mph throughout as you would expect from a local derby and it was obvious that the referee and his officials could not cope with the pace-making serious errors of judgement time and again- the most telling being offside flags that denied Adam le Fondre not 1 but 2 goals against his former employers. Add to that a yellow card for a Stockport player after he had clearly head butted Glenn Murray midway through the first half and you can fully understand the growing frustration amongst the Spotland faithful
The officials chalked off Dale's first "goal" on 11 minutes when Kelvin Lomax crossed, Glenn Murray mishit his shot which fell to Le Fondre and though Conrad Logan saved it he was behind the line and as Rory Prendergast rammed home an un needed rebound the referees assistant was already ruling Le Fondre offside. Why?
Kallum Higginbotham in for the off colour Ben Muirhead had a terrific first half and was denied his first senior goal when he saw his 25 yard free kick bounce off the cross bar via the fingertips of Logan. Another flowing move saw Gary Jones force a save out of Logan before the officials intervened and led to Stockports opener.
Clearly running from an onside position Higginbotham was flagged when through on goal and from the resulting free kick with Dale still fuming Adam Griffin crossed and with more than a hint of handball Liam Dickenson controlled and shot giving James Spencer in the Dale goal no chance whatsoever.
On 35 minutes spotted by the linesman Paul Tierney clearly placed his forehead on Murrays out on the touchline but after consultation with him referee Jones elected to show only a yellow card- since when was a clear head butt not a red card? Answers on a post card please!
The second half started with still more pressure and Logan saving very well as Le Fondre cut in and curled one towards the far corner with his right foot.
From a rare 54th minute foray forward the visitors won a free kick, Griffin floated it in and Dickenson rose highest to head home to double theor undeserved lead.
Still Dale pressed forward with Gary Jones and  Murray (twice) forcing Logan into saves before from a quick Tom Kennedy free kick Le Fondre won and converted a 69th penalty to give his side hope.
The pressure built and as a Murray shot looped up off a defender  the ever alert Le Fondre nipped in to head past the keeper only to again be denied by the linesmans flag- point of order here- (a) he was onside and (b) as it came off a defender before reaching Le Fondre he was definitely shouldnt have been flagged. Am i right?
Nothing wrong with the performance at all but no points.
Its a funny old game football isn't it?
I am now off to kick the cat and anything else that doesn't move out of the way.
