Rochdale AFC Ladies 4-2 Stockport County Ladies

Posted on: Wed 30 Dec 2009

Dale began well nearly opening the scoring within the first minute as Anna Renken just missed after making contact with a Rachael Wood cross. Dale piled on the pressure but against the run of play Stockport scored on the 18th minute from just outside the box.

Dale continued to play good attractive passing football and a superb move by Wells, Bell and right midfielder Rachael Davis found Holly Newman who took advantage of the retreating Stockport defender to fire home to level the score on the 30th minute.

Dale kept coming forward and Holly Newman scored her second goal just before half time. After the break again dale dominated play, good defensive work from Cummins, Wood, Buffel and Pearson kept Stockport to a few chances. Jo Cartwright in goal for Dale had little to do. Dale won the possession game and kept the ball well, Dale were knocking on the door for another goal and Holly Newman provided the finish chipping the Stockport keeper on the 60th minute.

Anna Renken made way for Lizzie Paul and Rachael Wood for Lisa Wood, but Dale were not finished yet as Susie Wells stepped up to take a blistering free kick which ended up in the back of the Stockport net on 70th minute. Katie Wood made way for Nicola Ireson and a clash of boots found Dale down to 10, as Susie Wells had to leave the field injured. Stockport took advantage and pulled a goal back with only a minute of play left.

A good result for Dale and we look forward to our away game at Scunthorpe next Sunday.
