Brighton, Fans and Frankie

Posted on: Wed 18 Aug 2010

Rochdale manager Keith Hill is looking forward to the trip to Brighton and meeting up with Seagulls boss Gus Poyet this weekend.

"I know Gus Poyet quite well , I share a lot of experiences with him including my pro licence last year and I know the way he wants to play football. He wouldn't have managed any club that couldn't match his ambitions and Brighton in League One can match his ambitions.

"I love the way he wants to play football , his enthusiasm for the game is electric and that will rub off on his players.

"I don't like putting any pressure on anyone, but if you ask any of the pundits or bookies Brighton are the favourites to win the game , but we aren't looking at those forecasts, we will just go down there and see what happens."

One player who will need no introductions to Dale supporters and the manager himself is striker Glenn Murray. The former Rochdale hitman returns to the Brighton side after serving out suspension and Hill knows what to expect.

"Glenn Murray is a good friend of mine and he was an integral part of our success when we took over three and a half years ago and I'll always be grateful to Glenn for that.I'm sure if he'd have stayed we would have been promoted that year but unfortunately these things happen in football. If I ever got the opportunity to recruit him again I would because I enjoyed working with him."

There is lots more from the Dale boss on Dale Player right now.The full interview with Keith covers many topics - the Carling Cup win and the draw for the next round, Frank Fielding's England call up and the Dale fans.

Comments from the gaffer include:
Frank Fielding
"I feel that the press used Frankie to get at Fabio Capello ......it is unfair on him and they used him as a fall guy.

Birmingham in Carling Cup
"I know the players will relish the opportunity to play at a big venue against a Premiership club and my ambition is to one day become a Premiership manager. We can go out and for one night we can imagine we are a Premier League side."

The fans
"I would never disrespect our fans ........Comments that were attributed to me were misleading in regard to the Barnsley game.
