Flynn: "I'm Delighted"
After putting pen-to-paper on his two year deal at Spotland, Matt Flynn spoke to Dale Player about his time at Dale, what the future holds for him and where he could have ended up before joining Keith Hill's side.
"I'm really happy to get it all over with now," said Matt. "I'm pleased to have signed and I just want to look forward to the game against Bury now. When I first came on-loan I wasn't expecting to sign permanently at all. I was set to sign for Rhyl in Wales when I got a phone call saying Rochdale wanted to sign me for a month on-loan, so I was delighted with that and I jumped at the chance to come here. The Gaffer and Flicker said I'd done well here and Macclesfield let me go, so I'm really happy at the moment.
"In my first year as a professional at Macclesfield I only made on appearance which was in a cup game. Keith Alexander got the job in my second year and I played 31 games for them. I thought I'd done well and they gave me a one year contract, but I wasn't in favour at the beginning of the season so they sent me out on loan and this is where I've ended up. I'm really happy to be here and I hope we can get promoted."

Having signed permanently, Matt's first game as an official Rochdale player will be against near rivals Bury on Saturday. He knows what it's like to play against Bury and told Dale Player about his excitement ahead of the game.
"I think I've done well so far. Sunday was a bit disappointing but we've got to put that right by getting a good result on Saturday against Bury. We're really looking forward to it. I played against them last season and got sent off, but hopefully we can get a good result against them!"
One noticeable difference between Macclesfield and his new employers is the way the players are handled. Sports Science plays a large part at Spotland, as do the management team. Flynn knows how important these things are in football and says it's these things that help him to enjoy the place.
"Hill and Flickers are like part of the lads in a way, but there's authority there. You can have a bit of banter but you don't cross the line. You are really well looked after here with the ice baths and things like that. You feel good after a game and you just want to crack on with training the next day. That's why I'm really enjoying it - it's like a Premiership club really."
