Vincenti: The Boys Showed Character

21 September 2015

Peter Vincenti, who scored the late winner in Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Scunthorpe United, has told Dale PlayerHD that “nothing beats” it.

His 85th minute goal ensured three points for Keith Hill’s side, moving Rochdale up to fifth in the Sky Bet League One table.

“Nothing beats [that feeling], said Vincenti as he reflected on the goal. “It’s nice to get the winner and to get on the score-sheet, but of course getting the three points was the most important thing.

“I knew the ball was coming in from TK because he had said at half time that he was going to put them in. Joe Bunney made the run and glanced it and it came off me, but they all count so I’m happy with it.”

Dale took the lead through Joe Bunney, before Murray Wallace equalised for the visitors. Vincenti is pleased with the character shown by the players to go on and net the winner.

“We got the goal, they got it back and then the boys showed character to go again and get the winner.

“We held on in the end and it’s difficult when you’re holding onto a lead because it’s inevitable that you’re going to drop and they’re going to throw everything forward, but I thought we held out well today.”

Rochdale are back in action on Saturday as they face Millwall at the Den. Vincenti is looking forward to the game.

“It’s a new place for most of the lads. It’ll be an intimidating atmosphere but we want to go to these sorts of places. Like I said last year, that’s why we got promoted.

“Millwall obviously came down from the Championship and they’ll be looking to put in a performance in front of their own fans, so it’s a game to look forward to.

“We’ll do our home-work and enjoy the trip to London, hopefully.”
