Season Review - March

26 May 2015

March was an excellent month for Dale as Keith Hill’s side secured five wins from seven games and netted 13 goals, including four against Crewe Alexandra.

The month started with the visit of the Alex, who Rochdale had recorded the superb 5-2 league win over earlier in the season. Ian Henderson’s two spot-kicks and a brace from Joe Bunney earned Dale the three points from the Tuesday night fixture.

Keith Hill’s side made it back-to-back wins as they recorded a 2-1 victory over Colchester United at Spotland days later. Goals in each half from Rhys Bennett and Henderson saw Dale open up a two goal lead, before Chris Porter put the visitors back in contention from the penalty spot. Rochdale defended resolutely, however, and saw out the game to seal their second home win in the space of a week following Tuesday night’s 4-0 win over Crewe Alexandra.

Two away games followed, with Dale firstly visiting Fleetwood Town’s Highbury Stadium where they fell to a 1-0 defeat, before making the trip to face Notts County.

Rochdale came from behind to claim a deserved three points from the midweek encounter at Meadow Lane. Garry Thompson had opened the scoring on the half hour mark, but the home-side’s lead lasted just five minutes as Henderson levelled the scoring. Peter Vincenti’s 54th minute goal ensured victory for Dale.

Next up was Scunthorpe United and Dale recorded their fourth win of the month with a 3-1 win over the Iron, in what was a dominant performance. A Michael Rose free-kick, which was his first goal of the season, gave Dale the advantage at half time, before the Iron equalised through Kevin Van Veen. Dale restored their lead immediately through Henderson, while Vincenti sealed the win late in the game.

The busy schedule continued as Keith Hill’s side faced Oldham Athletic and Yeovil Town before the month was out.

After falling to a 3-0 defeat away at the SportsDirect.com Park, a depleted Dale, who had lost four players to injury against Oldham, returned to winning ways with a 2-1 win over the Glovers. The result saw Dale climb into the play-off places.

Following a first half which was made difficult due to torrential rain, a break in the weather made for better conditions in the second half, with all three goals coming in during a five minute period after the interval. Bennett and Jack O'Connell opened up a two goal advantage, before James Hayter halved the deficit for the visitors.
