Rochdale secured safe passage through to the third round of the FA Cup with their second 4-1 victory in three days. A Matty Done hat-trick and an emphatic finish from Peter Vincenti countered a second half equaliser from Aldershot Town's Dan Fitchett to set up a tie at home to Nottingham Forest.

Keith Hill named just one change from Saturday's 4-1 victory over Colchester United, with Rhys Bennett replacing Jack O'Connell, who wasn't given permission to play by parent club, Blackburn Rovers.

Rochdale opened the game brightest of the two sides, exploiting the wings effectively against the Shots' three-man defence. It was from this wide play that Dale would win the first corner of the game and come within inches of opening the scoring. After Henderson got on the end of a Matty Done cross his effort was blocked and from the resulting corner, Eastham stole in at the near post but saw his goal-bound header scrambled off the line by the Aldershot defence.

Joe Rafferty combined well with Stephen Dawson on the right wing before he delivered a teasing ball across the six yard box. His whipped ball was missed by Matty Done despite his best acrobatic efforts in the centre and carried through to Vincenti at the far post. With the ball at an awkward height however, he was unable to keep his effort down as he volleyed high over the bar.

With half an hour on the clock, Dale opened the scoring through Done after another fantastic move out wide. Matty Lund picked up the loose ball in the centre of the field and spotted the run of Rafferty on the right, delivering a sublime through ball into the path of the right-back. With plenty of space ahead of him, he pushed forward before delivering the perfect ball, low across the box meeting the run of Done six yards out who slotted home through the goalkeepers legs.

Jordan Roberts found himself with a superb chance to bring Aldershot level after being played through one on one with Logan. On the left hand side of the area, Roberts rushed onto the ball which had squirmed free from a tackle and with the domineering figure of Conrad Logan closing him down quickly, the Aldershot forward looked to lob the goalkeeper but his effort floated across goal and wide of the far post.

Matty Lund was next to try his luck after strongly breaking through the middle of the field. After picking up the ball in the centre circle, Lund split through the Aldershot ranks with ease, and after beating his man on the edge of the box, released a low drive. The keeper responded well however, getting down well to his left to push the ball round the post.

HALF TIME: Rochdale 1-0 Aldershot.

Dale started the second half looking extremely lively and should have been awarded a penalty two minutes in. Henderson was set free on the right after expertly bringing down a ball over the top on the right wing before delivering a low ball across goal towards Vincenti. This was cut out by the keeper but squirmed free into the path of Lund who looked to drive the ball into the back of the net. His shot was saved by the defender six yards out and despite what was a blatant handball the referee waved the penalty appeals away.

With 73 minutes on the clock Aldershot found their equaliser from a corner. The in-swinging ball was whipped in from the right corner and met the head of substitute Dan Fitchett who had run away from his marker and and met the ball with a superb glancing header. He directed the ball to the far post and saw it nestle into the bottom corner of the net.

Rochdale responded in superb fashion and just two minutes later re-established their lead through Peter Vincenti. Ian Hendersin broke away down the left wing and played the ball low across goal towards Matty Done but it had too much on it. Done chased the ball out to the right wing before turning and delivering a sumptuous in-swinging ball which found Vincenti at the back post who made no mistake in emphatically smashing the ball past Phil Smith in the Aldershot goal from close range.

Five minutes later and Rochdale all but sealed the win after Marty Done slotted home into an open goal. The Dale man raced onto a weak back pass and showed great composure to take the ball around Phil Smith who did all he could to get in the way. After successfully navigating his way around the goalkeeper he completed the simple task of sliding the ball into the unguarded goal from 12 yards.

He wasn't finished yet however, and with one minute left of normal time, Done completed his hat-trick with an even easier finish than his previous. Calvin Andrew, who replaced Rhys Bennett in the 82nd minute, was set free into the box on the left-hand side. With an opportunity to shoot, he unselfishly elected to play the ball across goal to find Matty Done who had a tap in from three yards to seal his hat-trick.
