Hill: It Means So Much

8 December 2013

Manager Keith Hill spoke to Dale Player following Saturday’s FA Cup with Budweiser second round 2-1 win over Rotherham United at the New York Stadium..

“At half time I was little bit disappointed because we looked jaded, but second half, wow, it was more like us. You ask the players to respond and they did, and we were on the front foot. It’s about bravery, bravery in possession and bravery out of possession, and I think we showed that bravery in the second half.

“We’ve overcome a very, very good side. They’re a good side and we witnessed it watching DVD after DVD, so I’m really pleased. I’m really pleased that we’ve progressed to the next round, it means so much for a club like ourselves. I think it’s nine years since we were previously there, so from that perspective there’s a little bit of prize money in the bank. Hopefully we can get a very good game in the next round, but ultimately as a player and manager you do want to progress in the competition.”

He continued: “I’d love a top four side or a team that’s active in the Champions League etc. It would be brilliant for the football club to bring a little bit of that FA Cup magic to Spotland maybe, or taste playing against the likes of Arsenal or Chelsea or Manchester United away. That would be special for the football club and for the players - we may deserve that little bit of luck or fortune in the draw."
