McGinty Excited To Be Here

28 March 2014

Dale’s latest signing, Sean McGinty, says it’s “exciting” to be at Rochdale after joining on loan from Sheffield United.

The 20-year-old, who completed a move to Spotland on Thursday, was looking forward to getting started as he spoke exclusively to Dale Player ahead of training on Friday morning.

“I’ve met all the boys, they’re a good bunch of lads and it’s really exciting to be here,” said McGinty. "Rochdale are top of the league at the moment and I want to try and help push for promotion to League One.”

The centre-half is taking the move in his stride and reckons Manager Keith Hill will help him with his continued development.

“I’ve been to about five clubs on loan so far during my career, so you’ve got to be relaxed. You’ve got to be humble and try to fit in with the lads. Dale have had a good season so far, so you’ve got to try to settle into the way they play and try to get to know them all.

“I’ve played quite a few games in League Two and in League One as well, so it’s definitely all a learning curve. I’m still only 20 so I’m just looking to push on and help my understanding of the way League Two players play. I played a couple of games in League One as well but there’s not a lot of difference really; you’re still going out onto the pitch every week for three points."

He continued: "The Gaffer was a defender himself and I’m a centre half so I’m sure I can learn a lot from him. He knows exactly what I want and he plays exactly how I like to play, with ball playing defenders. That’s what I’m all about so I’m really looking forward to it.”
