Lynch: It Was A No-Brainer

20 February 2014

Craig Lynch says the decision to join Rochdale “was a no-brainer” following his move to Spotland earlier this week.

The 21-year-old signed non-contract terms at the club on Tuesday following a successful trial period, and he says that he has been impressed by what he has seen during his short time training with the first team.

“From the first day I just hoped that the Manager would offer me something and I was just waiting to get the call to come and down and sign, so I was delighted when they said they wanted to sign me. I was straight down to sign the papers,” Lynch told Dale Player.

He continued: “I’ve been impressed by the way that they want to play football and they want to get the ball down and play. The further you go down [the leagues] there’s not many teams that want to do that, so the style of the play and the way that the Manager and Beechy have got the lads training is the reason why I wanted to come here. It's a good team and they work hard for each other, so really it was a no-brainer to come here.”

Craig has spent the last fifteen years at Sunderland after joining the side’s academy when he was just six years old. He has had just one loan spell away from the club, spending a month with Hartlepool United in 2012, and despite spending the vast majority of his career so far at the Premier League Club, he’s excited by his new challenge.

“We’ll see how it goes over the next few weeks but I just really want to play first team football. My career was stopping at Sunderland and I was only playing under 21 level so I needed to break away from that and start fresh at a new club. Rochdale seems a perfect club to fit in at, so hopefully I’ll adapt quickly and help them push for promotion.”
