Josh Lillis Extends Spotland Stay

19 May 2014

We’re delighted to announce that Josh Lillis will be extending his stay at Spotland after agreeing a new deal with the club.

Josh, who was out of contract at Dale this summer, will pen a new two year contract.

The 26-year-old ‘keeper played in all but one of Rochdale’s competitive games this season, missing the home league match against Bristol Rovers through illness.

Josh played a key part in Dale’s promotion to League One, keeping 21 clean sheets in all competitions. He also pulled off some vital saves, which earned Rochdale points, including the last minute save at the
Memorial Stadium on Easter Monday.

Assistant Manager Chris Beech is delighted to have him back on board.

He commented: “First and foremost, his contract offer is deserved in terms of what he has done for the Football Club. He was tremendous this season and was a massive cog in the wheel, helping us gain promotion to League One.

“What’s impressed me and Keith this season has been the way he has distributed the ball. Josh has developed a vision, which is benefitting the team as a whole. Our recruitment and training programme represents people that can move and run, who are mobile and have pace, and his distribution is maximising people like Ian Henderson, Jamie Allen, Bastien Hery, who are landing on that ball – it’s fantastic.

“He got better and better as the season progressed and we’re really pleased that we have acquired his services for another two years.”
