Kennedy: The Gaffer Gets The Best Out Of Me

29 June 2015

Tom Kennedy has spoken to Dale PlayerHD after extending his stay at the club…

The defender, who turned 30-years-old last week, has penned a new two-year-deal.

After loan spells at Bury and Blackpool during the first half of last season, the defender went on to cement a place in Keith Hill’s side during the all important run-in of the campaign, something Kennedy was pleased with.

He told Dale PlayerHD: “It has been a turbulent year and it took me a while to get settled, but during my second spell here later in the season, I really felt back at home and I enjoyed my football again.

“That’s paramount in everything as it changes the whole aspect of your life. When you’re happy playing football, everything else falls in to place, so I’m delighted to have sorted out the next two years of my life.”

Hill brought Kennedy to Spotland for the first time eight years ago, where he stayed for a three year spell. A move to Leicester City followed in the summer of 2010, but he returned to Spotland in November of that year for a three month loan spell. In 2012 he was re-united with Manager Keith Hill at Barnsley, before joining the Gaffer back at Dale last August.

Kennedy says the opportunity to continue working for Hill played a big part in his decision to stay at the club.

“Without a doubt – he’s always got the best out of me throughout my career. He challenges you in different ways and every day coming in to work with him is an adventure. We bounce off each other and the team spirit between the rest of the lads and the coaching staff is fantastic – it’s a fantastic place to be.”
