Keep Smoke Bombs And Flares Out Of Football

10 March 2016

A joint statement from Rochdale Football Club, Bury FC and Greater Manchester Police…

We ask supporters attending Saturday’s local derby at Spotland to behave in a manner which befits the club that they support.

We want all spectators to enjoy their afternoon and, as such, anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated as we look to ensure supporters can safely watch the match in a family friendly environment.

This extends to the use of flares and smoke bombs, and the throwing of objects onto the pitch. The throwing of any object onto the pitch is an offence and strong action will be taken.

It is also a criminal offence for a person to enter or attempt to enter a football ground whilst in possession of a flare or smoke bomb. Anyone found to be in possession one of these devices will be arrested and will receive a ban. Fellow fans could suffer burns or breathing problems if a flare or smoke bomb is used and they may have to seek urgent medical care if subjected to smoke from the devices.

Keep smoke bombs and flares out of football. Help us to keep you, and those around you, safe.

We hope all supporters enjoy the match.
