Josh Lillis: We've Found A Home Here

26 May 2016

Josh Lillis has told Dale PlayerHD that he has found a home at Rochdale Football Club.

The goalkeeper was speaking after signing a new two-year-deal at the club.

Lillis has been at Spotland on a permanent basis since the summer of 2012, after two successful loan spells at Dale earlier in his career.

“I’m absolutely delighted to have signed a new two-year-deal,” said Lillis.

“It didn’t take me long at all to re-sign. I wanted to get it sorted early.

“The club has been great to me ever since day one, so it’s good to re-pay the club and sign for another two years.

“I’ve got a little girl on the way, who’ll be born at the end of July, so we’re really pleased about that. Family are the priority for me now and we’ve found a home here, which is also really pleasing.”

After having a memorable campaign in goal, Lillis was named as the 2015-16 Supporters Player of the Season and he is thankful to the fans for voting for him.

“It was really nice. I’ve been really fortunate over the last few years to pick up quite a few awards – I’ve had Player’s Player a couple of times in the past but I’ve never had the fans one so it was really pleasing to get that. I got a great reception at the End of Season Awards night, which was brilliant.”

And Lillis is looking forward to working with Steve Collis again next season, with Collis continuing in his role of coach-player.

“When Steve first came to the club he was a player, so I roomed with Steve as a player as well.

“He has fallen into the coaching role nicely and we’ve got a good relationship, both on and off the pitch. He’s young and brings new ideas, which is what you want from a goalkeeping coach.”
