Ian Henderson To End His Playing Career At Spotland

23 October 2015

Ian Henderson has told Dale PlayerHD that he will end his playing career at Spotland.

The 30-year-old made the revelation after penning a two year extension on Friday afternoon. It sees him contracted to the club until the summer of 2018.

“Over the last three months I’ve been deliberating about my future after I retire and spending the last couple of weeks out injured I realised how much I love football -  I missed it.

“I missed being around the lads and being around the squad and playing, and most importantly it was my eternal happiness that made me want to sign an extension and commit myself to the football club for the next two and half years.

“I’m over the moon with it and you’ll probably be able to tell by the smile on my face.

“I’m really happy to have signed an extension and I’m thankful to the Management staff and the players for making me feel so welcome at the football club ever since I’ve been here.”

He continued: “When you reflect back over the time that I’ve been at the football club, it has been one of them magic moments where everything clicks because prior to that I had a nomadic career. I think I’ve found my home and I’m going to retire at Rochdale.

“I’m going to see out my playing career here because I love the place so much. I love the North West and there are so many factors determining my stay here – the football, the management staff, the player and the fans. I also want to settle in the North West so I’m extremely happy.”

And Hendo has revealed some of his goals for the remainder of his time at Spotland.

“I want to get to 100 career league goals.

“Another of my goals is to become a cult hero at the football club. People may say why do you want to become a cult hero? I've moved across the country and I've not necessarily been settled but now I am settled and have been accepted, so that goal is a massive ambition of mine.

"Another goal is to get the club promoted to the Championship.

“I’m excited for my future and I’m excited for Rochdale Football Club. I’m happy and I’m very, very positive with that and I’ll continue to be that.”
