Hill: We Were Too Charitable

16 February 2015

Manager Keith Hill spoke to Dale Player following Saturday’s defeat to Peterborough United…

“We were too charitable,” said Hill.

“It’s unfortunate because we’re making key individual mistakes and when you do that you give yourself a mountain to climb in any game. The rest of the sideshows in what you do in the middle of the park is insignificant at times, especially when we’re so charitable.

“It’s such a shame really because I work with these players week in and week out, and I think psychologically now the impact of playing in League One is catching up with them.

“There are four or five mistakes that lead to the first two goals and it’s such a shame really because we’ve worked all week. The plan for the day can’t be re-enforced by me when the players make such elementary mistakes, because that’s what they are. But they’re human and they have made mistakes today.

“We showed great spirit in the second half but I don’t really want to talk about spirit. I want to talk about performances, winning football matches and making sure that we don’t make those silly elementary mistakes.

“We’ve scored five goals in our last three away games and that’s enough for us on our travels to pick points up, but unfortunately we’re just a bit too charitable at the minute.”
