Hill: The Players Have Done Exceptionally Well

19 December 2014

Manager Keith Hill gives his thoughts on his side's progression to the third round of the FA Cup...

He told Dale Player: "I’m pleased because it’s something that we have to take seriously. It’s vital extra revenue – you can’t make too much money. We have to strike while the iron is hot, if you like, and when we get the opportunity to make money then we’ve got to do it, whether that’s selling players, cup competitions, so revenue is really, really important.

"Not only that, the kudos as well for the players to be involved in the third round of the FA Cup against Nottingham Forest. They’re a massive, massive Football Club, who are steeped in tradition – European Cup winners and FA Cup winners. And Brian Clough, what a magnificent manager - it’s a proper football club in every sense of the word.

"The players have done exceptionally well to get through to the third round again and be playing a team such as Nottingham Forest and the standing that they have in the game."

It's the first time in over 60 years that Dale have progressed to the third round of the FA Cup in consecutive years. Hill says that shows how difficult it can be to get through the rounds.

"It’s very difficult – I’ve been involved in cup upsets while I’ve been here. We got beat by FC United and it has happened on a regular basis.

"The last two seasons we’ve done exceptionally well when you consider that we’ve had to go away to Torquay, to Rotherham, to Northampton and Aldershot, so I think credit goes to the players. They want to do well, not just in the league, but cup competitions as well.
