Hill: A Great Point

Saturday’s draw with York City secures a play-off place

Manager Keith Hill spoke to Dale Player following Saturday’s with York City…

“We created enough chances, but I think they defended excellently,” said Hill. “Their two central defenders and their goalkeeper are one of the reasons for that, but as a whole team they defend excellently.

“On the same note though, Josh [Lillis] hasn’t had a save to make over the course of 90 minutes and that’s compliments to my defensive team as well. I thought we were excellent without having that good fortune or killer pass in front of goal, so arguably we could have deserved more but I’m happy with the clean sheet.

“If you don’t concede then you don’t lose football matches and arguably that’s a great point against a good side. They’re resolute, with obvious threats, and they’ve done it superbly over the last 12 games, keeping 8 or 9 clean sheets. We’ve had our fifth clean sheet on the bounce so it’s a recipe for success for us as well.”

Hill continued: “I think we’ve done enough to mathematically secure a play-off place now, so that would be success in any other season or circumstance. I think it’s a massive success on last season, but for me, we’ve got five games to secure six points - I think 81 points gets you promoted. Rotherham last season got promoted with 76 points so the amount of points to get promoted is coming down every year and think that’s because the quality between each team is getting closer and closer.”
