Hill: A Massive Learning Curve

20 October 2014

Manager Keith Hill spoke to Dale Player following Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Gillingham…

“I’m reasonably happy with the performance and all the chances that we’ve created, but it’s not one of those day where it ends up 4-0,” said Hill.

“Everyone can go away frustrated with the result but I’m not frustrated with the chances created, the goals we’re trying to score or the way that we’re playing. What I am disappointed with is that it is obvious that it’s not the strikers’ day today, even though we’ve created clear cut opportunities. It’s a protection day today – it’s the defenders looking after our strikers type of game.

“We got the lead and we shouldn’t be drawing that game. We should be winning 1-0 and that’s a massive learning curve for our young players. They’ve got to organise better because the goal is a very scrappy goal. And I don’t think they should score. Without being disrespectful, I don’t think they’ve executed the perfect away game plan, it’s that we’ve not been good in front of goal.

“It has given them a point, but I can’t argue with it. At the end of the day, it’s another point on the board for us and a positive point.”
