Hill Pleased To Have No Midweek Fixture

1 September 2015

As the majority of teams in League One get set for Johnstone’s Paint Trophy action on Tuesday evening, Manager Keith Hill admits that he’s pleased Dale have a bye.

Rochdale will enter the competition at the second round stage, meaning Rochdale have no midweek fixture, the first since the season started last month.

Following Dale’s progression in the Capital One Cup, Hill’s side have played seven competitive fixtures during the first month of the season, and the Gaffer is pleased to have a free week.

Speaking after Saturday’s win over Barnsley, he told Dale PlayerHD: “I’m looking forward to this week with having no midweek game. I’m glad we got a bye in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

“Some our players are nursing fatigue injuries but if we do the right thing then we’ll get them back on the pitch quickly, so I’m pleased that we’ve got a free week.

“People will suggest that you can lose your rhythm by not playing midweek, but I don’t agree. I think we can maintain our rhythm on the training pitch.

“The players who haven’t played [on Saturday] will play in a game at Huddersfield and we’ll take the rest of the week from that point.”
